We had challenges in storing and managing massive amount of customer data. We needed ultra-low latency storage solution to keep up the customer experience. Also, we use it for our ML usecase to extract, process and train models real-time. This hybrid-flash solutions helped to simplified data delivery, facilitate real-time analytics generation with scalable virtualisation at affordable cost. We have been it for few years, and i’d say its highly dependable and secure. It has a great portfolio, that perfectly balances performance, capacity, cost and data service to fit business for any size.
  • Ultra low latency for best performance and improve productivity
  • Wide portfolio options for different customer sizes
  • Advanced virtualisation for good scalability
  • Safeguarded snapshot creation
  • User interface could be improved
  • Upgrade and patch could be smoother
  • Limitation in storage expansion functionality
IBM Storage FlashSystem helps us to save lot of time in job executions that involve complex processing. The hybrid cloud tools make the replication and migration easier and convenient. The management interface is awesome and it is convenient for storage management and administration which helps as lot for cost optimization as well as performance optimization. The storage repository is able to manage Corporate workload with high performance without any fuss.

We use IBM Storage FlashSystem as our primary storage array for our virtualization environment. It provides storage for our main 5 host cluster via 16Gb fiber channel. The hosts support roughly 100 virtual machines. The business problems that the unit addresses are providing very fast VM storage with extremely low latency. The array contains 12 NVME storage modules in a ~RAID6 level setup, so that we can lose 2 drives without impacting uptime.
  • Low latency
  • Storage DRS is supported
  • Ease of expansion
  • Drive firmware updates are a bit clunky, the update files have to be sourced manually
  • IBM has separate storage monitoring you need to set up to get good historical statistics.
  • If you need 8 16Gb ports you will not be able to expand with a SAS connector.
IBM Storage FlashSystem is very well suited for a small or medium business that does not want to compromise storage performance. Pricing is excellent and transparent on the website. The option to have 8 16Gb FC connectors allows you to forgo expensive and complicated SAN switches if your host count is low enough. Fewer components make the infrastructure more reliable.

It is mainly targeted to cater to the needs of high-end IOs from different applications across the organization. Mainly focused on delivering mission-critical servers with low latency disk access. This helps us to reduce a significant amount of time while running jobs on various applications across different domains. The storage has been deployed to use across different divisions in the company.
  • Performance is the crucial element to be highlighted, as it delivers the best in class industry performance.
  • Guaranteed compression ratio, one of the leading in [the] industry we got a 2:1 guaranteed and it achieved as per the commitment.
  • Reliability is one of the main elements which works really well, even being a storewide family product it delivers [the] best reliability features.
  • [The] footprint is key, as it helped us to reduce our organization's 2 racks storage capacity into a 2U rack space.
  • Better GUI interface
  • Currently, [the] performance of FS7200 can't be monitored through TPC/SC, this should be considered to include in [the] future.
  • IBM primarily lacks in designing its products physical looks, should have designed more intrusive and attractive design. A first impression of the product creates [an] impressive opinion.
Well suited: 1. High-end applications, especially in banking or core oil-related applications where latency is the key in delivering optimal results 2. It addresses the needs of [a] large footprint in the datacenter, even an SME can manage the physical capacity in a limited IT space. Less appropriate: 1. There should be a cost-effective version of Flash in [the] IBM portfolio, which helps SMB to consider/opt within their budget. 2. Marketing, as the product has not been widely marketed by IBM. This is one of the areas which needs improvement.

These are the go-to storage systems for our small ESX deployments. Allowing 4 direct attached FC hosts means they are a perfect match of size and performance
  • Price to performance. Our clients are always looking to cut margins and still expect top performance. The IBM FlashSystem 5000 series enable us to give a great bang per buck ratio
  • With hybrid flash we get the performance we need and the right capacity maximizing the ROI
  • Simple to manage interface and commonality across the IBM range
  • Like all the Storwize product range the snapshots can be a little confusing especially if coming from other IBM arrays like XIV
  • Max speed on image mode migrations needs to be increased
  • Maybe increase the default replication bitmap space I have run out and needed to expand it from time to time
Our primary use case was for small, ESX farms direct attach deployments / POC labs. We did a seamless upgrade from a 5010 to a 5030 when the client changed its mind and required encryption. In this case, we had enough space left to delete and recreate the MDISK`s one at a time so the process was transparent and no outage was required.

IBM FlashSystem 7200 is being [used] by the IT Infrastructure team to provide storage resources to the servers in the infrastructure. We allocate storage space for different systems based on the business requirements. It addresses the need for faster storage requirements as it is a fully NVMe based storage system. NVMe drives are much faster than the typical storage SSD's. It also addresses the need for scalable storage systems as more disks can be added to the enclosure as and when required.
  • Storage Efficiency
  • Scalability
  • Faster Provisioning of LUN's
  • It would be great if the solution costs are lowered.
  • Better user interface would be helpful.
  • Better Compression
IBM FlashSystem 7200 is well suited for organizations that require mid-range storage solutions based fully on NVMe's which is easily scalable, can be integrated with cloud systems and has ultra low latency. It is not suitable for smaller organizations as the cost of implementation is quite high and the Return on Investment won't be high.

IBM Flash System 7200 is being used in our company to streamline and uplift our business process. It is an outstanding storage repository and is used around all of our organization's IT departments. Its high performance helped us in compression and it is highly beneficial in storage optimization and it allows integration with VMware and it is perfect.
  • Its high-speed performance helps streamline our business process.
  • Its integration is astounding, most specifically with VMware.
  • It allows replication and DRP compression.
  • Its interface is quite simple with so many enormous features.
  • Its subscription rate is unfair and is highly expensive.
  • Reports should be elaborative probably with more insight and should inform about the performance.
  • Deployment of this tool is quite complex and tricky.
This is an extremely recommended tool for storage and low latency as it is a high-performance tool and it has the ability to streamline our business. It is good for all those who want to deliver the data of clients in a quick and efficient manner. But its reports are something I least like about it because I anticipated reports to be more elaborative rather than mere superficial reports.

Used across the entire business where we have a SAP ECC production environment running on devices connected to IBM Power Systems. Storage devices are exceptionally fast using NVMe Flash disks/arrays and are therefore achieving greater compression ratios by using on-board hardware compression accelerators. Even out read/write operations are faster than before which generally spends up a whole host of business functions.
  • Excellent support structure from IBM
  • Integration of the system with a host of midrange devices is super easy
  • GUI is intuitive and easy to navigate between models.
  • Some of the connective functionality with the IBM storage insights software is lacking.
  • IBM need to focus more specifically on their existing issues, rather than always seem to be pushing the bigger and newer versions.
It is well suited as a reliable and fast workhorse. It has a high level of integrated encryption and works well with the functionality straight out the box so well suited when you need something that works and works well quite quickly.

We use this for a high-performance record-keeping system that is highly transactional. Queries need to be resolved in milliseconds and in many cases require computations involving complex calculations and large data sets. We were able to move our database devices over to the FlashSystem 7200 storage which greatly improved the performance over traditional SAN storage. This was by far our best and easiest performance gain. We are using this within our department.
  • High performance
  • Low latency
  • Easy to present storage
  • Data storage
  • Easier to use encryption.
These are great storage devices that have great scale-out. They support high-performance real-time transaction processing systems. Also, they support complex query calculations across large data sets. I think any system that has SLAs requiring quick response times could benefit from this type of storage solution. Beats traditional SAN hands down. Improves performance of some transactions by two orders of magnitude over our previous traditional SAN storage array.

We mostly use this system in a hybrid cloud environment for the whole organization. It is easy to use and maintain and it has a very good performance for a mid-size enterprise. We use it as a storage system for core custom applications. Previously we used a V3000 series and upgraded it to V5000 due to new requirements and we are very happy with the decision. Also the price-performance ratio is good.
  • Great user interface.
  • Good performance with SSD SAS.
  • Very affordable.
  • Easy to scale.
  • Lack of 32Gb fibre channel.
This system allows you to quickly consolidate, simplify, and optimize your IT infrastructure with an efficient, highly flexible, easy-to-use storage system with powerful virtualization features. It is designed for businesses of all sizes including small, remote, and branch offices and regional and enterprise clients. It is a self-optimizing solution that requires less management, which enables organizations to overcome their storage challenges.

[IBM FlashSystem 7200 (formerly Storwize V7000)] is our current storage system for the entire company. It provides the disk space that our applications and users need. We have been using it more than 3 years and increased the capacity as needed without any issues. It gives a solid performance which helps you feel confident for the business continuity
  • Good performance
  • Ease of management and automated reporting features
  • Security and policy usage
  • Maintenance is not cheap
  • Implementation could be difficult
  • Comes in block
IBM [FlashSystem 7200 (formerly Storwize V7000)] is a scalable, and solid performance device. Once you implement, it is likely that you would not be having much troubles for a long time and in such problem cases, IBM helps immediately and thoroughly.
However, all of those may not be quite cheap. After the initial purchase, you would be paying high yearly maintenance costs. Also scaling could be expensive with additional hardware and licensing.

Fujitsu used Storwize for a variety of different tasks, primarily for ETERNUS systems hybrid systems. The incredible speed of the solid storage of IBM [FlashSystem 5000 (formerly Storwize V5000E)] was incredibly powerful and far faster than tape or hard-drive storage in our hybrid systems. It allowed for quicker caching which then could be stored into tape or hard-drive.
  • Incredible transfer speed
  • Easily integrates with hybrid systems
  • Excellent disaster recovery
  • NVMe storage understandably far more expensive than tape or hard-drive
  • Machines are huge despite not having as many moving parts
  • If you're not using Cisco systems it's not as easy to set up
When incredibly fast storage is needed, with excellent redundancy and disaster recovery also. With IBM's solution there's large room for scalability. It's perfect for use-cases such as AI or Machine Learning where access to big data is required very quickly and accurately. A use case where it wouldn't be as useful is where the data is not required at the amazing transfer speeds that solid state offers.
